Reeping the Rewards of Putting Intentions Out There

If the time between posts isn't testament enough, I will admit that I have not been putting a lot of time and attention into this 40 Before 40 list 😕

But as I came back to refocus on it, one of the things I noticed was that I had accomplished at least one of the goals - and repeatedly in fact!

#12: Create and sell a knitting pattern

A friend asked me to help her make a gift for her parents in 2020, a Christmas themed washcloth. So I designed a tree one:

Step one - create pattern ✔

Then in early 2021 I decided to make one for each month of the year. In one of my lessons I held up the one I was working on for February to show something (seed stitch maybe?) and my student loved it, he proactively asked me if I was selling that pattern.

"I am just finalizing it, but plan to."

"Can you let me know when it is available? I want to make some for my daughters."

Suddenly finishing it became a priority. I sent him an email once it was live on Ravelry, and he purchased it!

Step two - sell pattern ✔

I kept designing and learning new things like how to run a test knit (get others to try my pattern in exchange for a free copy of the final version and help find errors I may have missed and also have examples of the finished project that others can see).

Fast forward to Jan 2022 and I got my first sale of a pattern to someone I didn't know personally - boy did that feel good!

Now I have a washcloth for each month of the year, and a lot more confidence in my ability to do new and hard things. And also a reminder that there is value in setting goals.
